Morocco overview:
The arrival of budget airlines to a country is always a sign of an emerging market. You can now fly to Marrakech for under £70 with the well-known budget airlines who have recently entered into a five-year plan with the Moroccan government to develop low-cost air access and tourism there. You can reach Morocco from the UK in three hours.
With its unique location and being very near to Western Europe and its all the year round weather, it's uniquely suited to investors needs. The reasons for investing in Morocco are not just confined to its location or weather; there are many more things which make investing in Morocco a profitable business. At this stage the property prices in Morocco are relatively low compared to other destinations and it still is an emerging market. The tourism sector is roaring in Morocco and people have reported 85% occupancy rate for rented properties during high season. These reasons alone make Morocco a safe investment destination.
However, if you are still a bit cautious about purchasing property in Morocco - take note of this: the Moroccan King Mohammed VI and the UAE have allocated huge investment into drastically increasing tourism further to a goal of 10m per year by 2010. Apart from this, the United States is pouring investment into developing the infrastructure within Morocco. These investments along with several tax advantages makes Morocco an attractive proposition.
At present the Moroccan government is forging ahead with six large tourist resorts - five along the North African country's Mediterranean coast and one on the Atlantic coast - collectively known as Plan Azur 2010. Over the next five years, developments within these and other five-star resorts will evolve in the north around Saidia, Tangier and Tetouan and further south around Agadir, Essaouira and Marrakech. It goes without saying Morocco already has stunning beaches. The government has also made plans to improve the country's communications, including a tunnel under the sea linking Morocco and Spain by 2010, a €11.9 million, 1,000-kilometre new roads programme and the introduction of a high speed rail network.
